A Quick Update

sunny 30 °C

Since my last entry quite a bit has happened I guess. I will update on that in a second, but first I thought I should tell you all a bit about myself so you can relate when I say things.

I am an 18 year old Canadian named William. I just finished my first year of University in Miami, Florida and I have considered Costa Rica(a central American country) my home for the past 4 years or so due to parents work positions moving us there.

Anyways as I said last time, I was up in Vancouver, Canada working to save money for this trip. I am done work now, and just waiting around until August 7th when I meet up with Fabio in Switzerland to start our journey. While I was up in Canada, Fabio came up for about 2 weeks to live with me and start his travels early. We had a lot of fun!

I realize I am kind of ranting, with no real formatting or point in sight but I am just going on with this, as my memory highlights certain things. Oh! I got a girl friend a few weeks ago in Vancouver. Very random as I was not even looking for one as I will be moving all over the world in the next year. This girl is amazing though, she came out of nowhere and I couldn't resist. Hopefully we can make it work over the next year.

Speaking of which, I am actually, currently in LA, California for the weekend(going back to Vancouver tomorrow) as my GF has an audition here (she is an actress.) Tomorrow I am going back to Vancouver, then two days after that I am going to visit my Mom at her house in Costa Rica, then 4 days after that I am going to Miami to make sure the vehicle I have in storage there is holding up fine, and then finally two days after this I will land in Greece, Athens more specifically.

From Athens I will backpack between 5 differant countries with my family before they fly back home and I branch of the meet Fabio in Switzerland. My family and I plan to tour Greece, Germany, Austria, Norway, Scotland and England over 3 weeks together. I am looking forward to that, but this blog is more based on my backpacking adventures after that with my mate Fabio.

Anyways, that ends this mess of an update. Also, I added a photo of me to the initial entry so that my readers can put a face to me when reading my blog. Subscribe and I will update often once this trip gets fully under way!

Again, for an alternate view on my upcoming travels please view Fabio's blog as well:

And for good measure I added another photo of me here at my hotel in LA.DSC02276.jpg

Until next time,

William

Anticipation

1 month more...

-17 °C

It was a warm night in Costa Rica, as me and some mates sat in the pool with some beers. I had just finished my first year of University, while my mates were closing in on their High School graduation. As we talked randomly about our future's, my friend Fabio advised us that he would be taking the following year off and rather than heading to University he would wander the globe with a backpack. Now the first thing you need to understand is that throughout my 3 year friendship with Fabio, I have heard many eccentric stories told. Considerring we were all relatively drunk by this point, I figured that this must have been just another one of these "Fabio Stories." Oh how I was mistaken. When I realized he was being serious, I thought "wow, that is awesome(I have always had a love for travel.)"

A few days passed and the jealousy persisted, how could Fabio be embarking on such a life changing adventure, while I would have to return back to University. Then, it clicked. If he can do it, then so can I. More time passed, and I thought of how to convince my mom that this is what I would be doing, I would be accompanying Fabio around the world for the next year. At first, she would not accept the idea, but eventually it sunk in.

Fast forward.

Here I am, in an office in Vancouver, where I have been working for the past 2 months to save money for this trip. As I sit here working on an excel spreadsheet for my boss, I look at the calendar. One month until this journey begins. The wait has been a long one, but the time has almost come. Oh, the anticipation.

I will be updating this blog constantly over the next year as we travel through Europe, Asia and Australia. So subsrcibe and enjoy!

On a curious note, Fabio and I got fortune cookies the other day. Mine said "Remember three months from this date(it was June 17, 2007.) Good things are in store for you." While Fabio's said "An enjoyable vacation is awaiting you near the mountains."

Coincidence? I guess we will wait and see..
